Practice Management Software
Practice management (PM) software handles the operational backbone of a healthcare practice — scheduling, patient records, billing, insurance, and reporting. Sometimes bundled with the EHR, sometimes separate.
PM software is what runs the business side of the practice: who is booked when, what they were billed, what insurance was charged, what was collected, and what the practice owes. EHRs handle clinical; PM handles operations and revenue cycle.
EHR vs PM
EHR = clinical (SOAP notes, vitals, e-prescribing, lab orders). PM = operational (scheduling, billing, claims, reports). Many modern systems bundle both — Jane App, DrChrono, ChiroTouch — but the distinction still matters when comparing tools.
Where AI fits
AI in PM has historically meant predictive no-show scoring and automated insurance verification. The newer category is AI patient engagement (texting, voice, recall) that sits alongside the PM, not replacing it.
Common chiropractic / dental options
Chiropractic: ChiroTouch, Genesis, ChiroSpring, Eclipse. Dental: Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Open Dental, Curve. Multi-vertical: Jane App, Cliniko, DrChrono, NextGen.
What to evaluate
Insurance billing depth, integration ecosystem, mobile/cloud vs server-installed, reporting flexibility, and whether the vendor has a clear AI strategy or is being passed by faster-moving startups.
